Boundaries & Guidelines
Abhayam must be compassionate without becoming reckless. Clear boundaries protect both beneficiaries and volunteers.
Medical Boundaries
Volunteers may accompany individuals, assist with logistics, or connect people to licensed professionals. Volunteers must never diagnose, prescribe, administer clinical procedures, or alter medication schedules unless separately qualified and licensed to do so.
Emergency Limitations
Abhayam is not an emergency response unit, 24/7 hotline, or crisis center. Situations involving immediate physical danger, medical emergencies, or severe distress require direct contact with official emergency services.
Financial & Legal Boundaries
Volunteers do not hold financial assets, manage bank accounts, handle personal credentials/PINs, or provide professional legal counsel. Volunteers act as caring neighbors, not financial or legal fiduciaries.
Child Safeguarding
Any interaction involving children requires explicit parental/guardian consent, appropriate supervision, and adherence to strict institutional background protocols. Child protection is paramount.
Privacy & Data Protection
We collect minimal personal data. Names, exact addresses, phone numbers, and identifying details are never published on the public web. Stories are anonymized by default.
Physical Safety & Dependency
Volunteers are empowered to decline or exit situations involving violence, illegal activities, or unsafe environments. The goal of Sahayam is to empower individuals and strengthen family/community ties rather than creating volunteer dependency.
